Subaru Outback Service Schedule

6,000-Mile Interval

  • Check and adjust clutch hydraulic fluid (manuals only)
  • Check and adjust coolant level
  • Check operation of exterior lights
  • Check and adjust power steering fluid
  • Check and adjust tire pressures
  • Inspect belts and hoses
  • Inspect suspension and steering components
  • Inspect tires for uneven wear and damage
  • Inspect wiper/washer systems and fluid
  • Replace Genuine Subaru oil filter
  • Replace Genuine synthetic oil
  • Replace oil drain plug gasket
  • Rotate and balance tires
  • Service battery terminals

12,000-Mile Interval

At 12,000 miles, you have more tasks to attend to, which includes everything in the 6,000 mile column. This is the steering and suspension check, as well as your brakes and clutch. You’ll also want to have the air filter switched out, and this is where your tire rotation and oil change will take place.

18,000-Mile Interval

  • Alignment Check (required for Passport Program)
  • Check and adjust clutch hydraulic fluid (manuals only)
  • Check and adjust coolant level
  • Check and adjust power steering fluid

  • Check operation of exterior lights
  • Inspect belts and hoses

24,000-Mile Interval

  • Check and adjust clutch hydraulic fluid (manuals only)
  • Check and adjust coolant level
  • Check and adjust tire pressures

  • Check operation of exterior lights

  • Inspect suspension and steering components
  • Inspect tires for uneven wear and damage

30,000-Mile Interval

The most intensive maintenance check comes at the 30,000 mile mark. You’ll have your brake fluid checked as well as an inspection of the drive belt, cooling system, and fuel system. If you drive a manual, the clutch and transmission fluid will be replaced. Here’s what happens:

  • Check and adjust clutch hydraulic fluid (manuals only)

  • Check and adjust front and rear differential fluid
  • Check and adjust power steering fluid

  • Flush brake system and replace fluid

  • Inspect suspension and steering components
  • Inspect tires for uneven wear and damage
  • Inspect wiper/washer systems and fluid
  • Rotate and balance tires
  • Replace Genuine Subaru air filter
  • Replace Genuine Subaru oil filter
  • Replace Genuine synthetic oil
  • Replace spark plugs (only at 60,000 and 120,000)
  • Replace oil drain plug gasket
  • Service battery terminals
